Columbus Day Craft

Submitted by EM

What You Need:

  • brown, white, blue construction paper

  • stapler

  • craft glue

Directions:

1. Cut 2 strips of blue construction paper 3 inches wide. Tape or staple them end to end so they become one long piece. (Long enough to fit around child's head).

2. Next, on one side of the paper cut a wave pattern. Cut out 1" tall boats out of construction paper; also cut out sails from white construction paper.

3. On the blue "ocean" crown print "In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue." On the white ship sails write the names of the 3 ships that sailed...the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria.
Turn blue paper over and hot glue (Elmer's if you're patient) a toothpick onto three wave tips...on which you'll glue on the ship and the sail above.

We did this today after reading a short history "lesson", and looked at the globe...my 5 year old loved it and this craft totally reinforced the rhyme.
