This is a project that is great to do with scouts or a 4-h group.This is another craft my kids really enjoyed making. We did this as part of our bird theme week.
Peanutty Birds
Peanuts in the shell
string , dry grass etc (small amounts for nests)
toothpicks
feathers for the wings if you like
wiggly eyes
smooth rock, bark to glue bird onto.
- First we painted our peanuts different colors. We painted several toothpicks yellow.
- Now glue on the wiggly eyes to the top front of your peanut.
- Glue on toothpick legs. Use CRAFT or TACKY glue.
- Glue on a beak out of yello paper or use a small piece of toothpick.
- Add feathers to the sides if you like. We did.
- Now take your rock or piece of bark or whatever you are using for a base and add some glue. Kind of make a globby circle. Build up your nest out of dry grass, yarn etc. We made little clay eggs to put in them. You could also use playdough.
- now place glue on the bottom part of the toothpick legs and glue them down in the outside of your bird nest. You can glue a small square of styrofoam down to put them in also but make sure you cover it up.
- All that is left is to display it!
