Make Your Own Sandstone
by Belinda Mooney

This is a great geology or earth study experiment.

Use this experiment to enhance you Earth Science or Geology study.

MAKE YOUR OWN SANDSTONE

1/2 c. water
2 paper cups
2 1/2 TBS Epsom salt
Spoon
1/2 c of dry sand

Put 1 ½ inches of water at the bottom of one of the cups.

Dissolve the Epsom salt in the water. Stir it it almost all gone. This holds the sand together

Put 1 ½ inches of sand into the bottom of the other cup.

Pour salt mixture into the sand and stir into the sand is completely wet.

Let sit undisturbed for at least 1 hour. Then very carefully drain off any water that is on the top. You mat have to do this several times the first day.

Leave your cup sit where it won't get bothered for at least a week. Don't cover it with anything. After it has completely dried, tear away the paper cup. If it is still a little damp at the bottom. Let it sit some more. Feels like real sandstone.
